I added bugs on purpose :D


As per usual I have made some visible updates in parallel with some updates behind the scene

In this build:

Visible changes:

  • The difficulty levels have been rebalanced. The speed of enemy spawning has been significantly decreased, and some of the mana/stamina values have been rebalanced
  • The snakes and rock hoppers have more nodes where they can be hit, but also more health. This means that the gun can now take them down if necessary, but the sword is still the optimal weapon for these enemies
  • I added bats; they're like birds but faster and harder to predict. This also means they are less accurate, so they only do a lot of damage in swarms
  • I added roaches; they're small and can only deal damage to you if they are on a higher level than your feet. They're more of a nuisance than a threat. They skittery, tho
  • I added a perpetual weapon list to the help overlays to make it more obvious to new players that there is more than one weapon. This will be replaced by tutorials once the main game is released.

Background changes:

  • I switched to self generating sprite sheets. This significantly improves processing speed for animation. The current method only loads in the sprite sheets that are needed, and it does so as they are needed, so the first time a bullet is fired, this can cause the game to "hiccup". That is because the bullets are coming from a large image. I will look into adjusting the loading method as the game gets larger.
  • I have laid some ground work for the top-down over world that will be the majority of the main game. This is currently not accessible, but I will most likely have some sort of a beta for this functionality in the next update, so that people can get an idea of how the main game play will be (at least as it relates to fighting).
  • I'm recording some music and plan to get some of the sound effects working soon.

Misc:

  • Fixed an issue where the color and number for high score tracker would be wrong after playing a hard mode game
  • Fixed some damage node coordinates to be in more intuitive positions
